What is a Septic System

A septic system is an underground wastewater treatment structure, used in areas lacking centralized sewer systems. Septic systems treat and dispose of household wastewater on-site. Making them essential for environmental health and safety. Septic tank systems are used in more than 21 million homes across the US.

How a septic system works:

The system has two components: the tank and the drain, also known as the leach field or drain. Systems are mostly gravity fed to push all the water and waste down into the homes’ drainpipes down to the septic tank. Once it reaches your septic tank, those materials settle and separate the solids settling to the bottom while the scum (oil, grease & soap residue) float to the top. Once the tank reaches it’s capacity the overflow water streams out through a series of pipes into the drain field.
Proper installation and maintenance are critical for a septic system to work efficiency and the longevity of the system.
